Now that Dad took you off of his credit card, you can’t eat out as much as you used to. Unfortunately, Grocery shopping is so boring and food totally costs a lot of money. But don’t despair! Here are five tasty recipes that you can make from your roommate’s groceries.
- Overnight Oats
You saw this recipe on Instagram, and just knew that you had to try it. Combine oats, yogurt, and almond milk in a glass jar and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. You don’t have oats, yogurt, or almond milk, but luckily your roommate does! If you use one cup of her almond milk every night for these oats, it will take a full week before the carton is completely empty. She’ll never notice!
- Avocado Toast with Chia Seeds
This millennial treat makes a tasty and filling breakfast. You definitely can’t afford avocados, so it’s very convenient that your roommate can! After your roommate leaves for the gym, toast a slice of her whole wheat bread until golden brown. Then, spread the avocado evenly and sprinkle with chia seeds and salt and pepper. Yum!
- Mixed-Berry Smoothie
Your roommate goes to the farmer’s market every Tuesday to buy fresh berries, and they are just perfect for your smoothies! You’ll need one cup of strawberries, one cup of blueberries, and 1/2 cup of your roommate’s fancy Greek yogurt. Use her blender and then leave it in the sink when it’s too hard to clean. It’s her blender, so she probably knows how to do it right!
- Mediterranean Quinoa Bowl
This yummy vegetarian meal includes cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and quinoa drizzled with homemade tzatziki sauce! Luckily, your roommate bought all of these ingredients to make for her lunches next week. This recipe will take a little bit longer than the others, so wait until your roommate leaves for the weekend, and then go for it! It’s actually kind of nice that your roommate is gone this weekend because she’s been really grumpy lately. She totally gave you the stink eye when she came home from work on Thursday, and when she asked about your late rent she had such a snippy tone! What’s gotten into her?
- Microwave Mug Brownies
Your friends from college are coming over for a girls night! Yay! Luckily your roommate has just enough snacks to feed all six of them. After you finish off her popcorn and potato chips, you’ll probably be craving something sweet. Luckily, these microwave mug brownies are a cinch to make! First, melt down some of your roommate’s gourmet dark chocolate. Your roommate used to keep her chocolate in the pantry, but lately, she’s been squirreling it away in her dresser drawer and under the stack of magazines in her room. Melt the chocolate for thirty seconds in the microwave on high. Then, add almond milk, butter, salt, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder. Whisk well, and then microwave for ninety more seconds. Be warned, your roommate will come home in the middle of the cooking time and say “We have to talk”. You’ll say “Does it have to be right now?” and she’ll say “Yes it has to be right now”. Whatever it is she wants to talk about, at least you’ll have a tasty treat when she’s done!
